In contrast to the strict and somewhat reserved Swiss style of the 1960s, Büro Destruct stands for design without the handbrake on. Apparently everything is possible. It can be humorous, loud, colorful and contemporary. At the same time, minimalism, precision and craftsmanship are present in all of her work. The Swiss, who see themselves and their studio as a kind of band, present another skilfully composed album with this new book. The Bernese quartet has never dealt with safe or conventional consensus graphics, preferring clear, sometimes trashy and always refreshingly original designs. Blessed with a healthy dose of insatiable curiosity, they have been seeking inspiration beyond the mountain ranges since the mid-1990s - long before the internet took off. The Swiss feel a strong connection to the values of Japanese culture, which have inspired them over the years. But unlike Emil Ruder and other heroes of classic Swiss graphic design, who also drew from Japan, they are more inspired by the wild side of Japanese culture. Büro Destruct's vector-heavy graphics have always followed the motto »think global, act local«. Often against the grain of the public imagination: they were among the few who ignored the temporary but intense flirtation of Swiss graphic design with burgeoning neoconservatism. Over the past 27 years, Büro Destruct has successfully avoided committing itself to one particular area or getting too comfortable there. At the same time, of course, it's there: that special destruct feeling. An independent signature, for which many words could be found, but which, even after more than two decades, is best conveyed by looking at her work ... The 4th monograph not only presents the best projects of the last twelve years, but also intermediate steps, distortions, experiments and inspirations. About Büro Destruct: The Swiss graphic design studio Büro Destruct was founded in Bern in 1994 by »HGB Fideljus« Berger & Lorenz »Lopetz« Gianfreda. In 1995, Marc "MB" Brunner & Heinz "H1" Reber joined today's group formation. Since day one, BD has kept the line between fine art and commercial graphic design open, which is evident in the number and variety of techniques used and reflected in projects for clients from a wide range of backgrounds. Publications, exhibitions, lectures and workshops all over the world enable the Destruct office to constantly renew itself and expand contacts with the Swiss capital Bern, true to the motto: »Small City – Big Design.«
