A culmination of painting that resonates with the depth of the landscape and sees its existence.

``To draw is to work.'' This book features Toshihide Nishida's representative works, which continue to paint in a single direction, as well as his latest works based on research conducted in the primeval forests of Yakushima.

He was born near the forest of Ise Shrine and studied under Togyu Okumura and Hideo Shiode. He is guided by everything in the natural world - a drop of rocky water, the stars in the night sky, microorganisms under fallen leaves - and draws on the spirituality and universality of this world from his deep connection with nature. He expresses the beauty of existence, including invisible things and illusions.

In 2022, he moved to Yakushima for a year and aspired to create a 70-meter-long masterpiece depicting the history of the island, where primeval forests still exist, the cycle of life, and even the effects of logging and development. The painting in progress, entitled ``Phoenix,'' questions the relationship between nature and humans with a delicate yet free brushstroke that reflects every aspect of the environment and its presence.
