Book Description

More than a decade has passed since New York City last hosted a new exhibition by Dale Chihuly. This volume documents the artist’s latest large-scale project presented at The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG), marking a long-awaited visual spectacle. Through expansive panoramic photography and detailed documentation, the book invites readers into the garden setting to witness how Chihuly’s vibrant, dynamic glass sculptures engage in dialogue with the natural landscape, creating magnificent compositions of form, light, and color.

The book features newly hand-blown glass works installed in harmony with NYBG’s renowned Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. This historic glass structure is itself regarded as an architectural work of art, and Chihuly’s organic sculptural forms further enhance the space’s transparency and layered visual experience, embodying a harmonious coexistence between artistic creation and nature.

In addition to photographic documentation of the site-specific installations, the volume includes a selection of the artist’s expressive and energetic drawings. As fluid and richly colored as his glass sculptures, these works offer direct insight into the energy, inspiration, and creative process behind Chihuly’s art.

Together, the book and the accompanying exhibition demonstrate how the artist—often described as the “Tiffany of our time”—has brought the art of glass-blowing and sculptural glass to the forefront of contemporary American art, inspiring audiences across generations to rediscover the magic and beauty of glass.

Published in association with The New York Botanical Garden.
