In the summer of 2019, an art event was held in Kyobashi, the center of Tokyo, where the excitement ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games was held. Its name is "TOKYO 2021". The contents were to examine the history of Tokyo from a new perspective from both architecture and art, and to make proposals for the future of the city after the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

No one imagined that "TOKYO 2021" would become a reality, not only when the event was held, but also when the production of this book began. Now that the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, which will be held for the second time in Tokyo, are over, and we are still facing the threat of the novel coronavirus, which has no end in sight, we will once again ask ourselves about TOKYO 2021. Tokyo continues to expand through developer-led urban development, image manipulation by the media, and scrap and build. When we have no choice but to confront the values of the past and the vision of the future, how do architects and artists interpret the times and express questions?
