This picture book was born out of Gaby Bazin's desire to share with a wide range of generations the wonders of the history and technology associated with French books and printing, such as letterpress printing and bookbinding.

Her interest in typefaces dates back to her childhood, when she used notebooks to copy the logos of her favorite cereals.
