Customer Reviews
Jean-Michel Othoniel (born in 1964 in Saint-Étienne, France) is a globally renowned contemporary artist currently based in Paris. His work revolves around themes of fragility, transformation, and ephemerality, often employing modular elements such as bricks and beads to create sculptures that range from small, intricate pieces to grand, monumental installations. His artworks have been exhibited worldwide, including prestigious venues like the Louvre Museum in Paris, earning widespread acclaim.

In May 2024, Othoniel participated in Taipei Dangdai, presenting a new series of projects that included "Suspended Lovers," "Wall of Gems," and "Fantastical Columns." Among the highlights was a giant necklace sculpture, whose spectacular design captivated numerous visitors.

Recently, his piece Petit Théâtre de Peau d'Âne was added to the permanent collection of the Pompidou Center in Paris, with an exhibition running from June 18 to October 21, 2024. Furthermore, his solo exhibition The Eye of Night will be held at the Oscar Niemeyer Museum in Curitiba, Brazil, from November 22, 2024, to May 23, 2025, further showcasing his artistic achievements.

Othoniel's art centers around the concept of "emotional geometry," utilizing the repetition of modular elements to craft works that are both visually stunning and emotionally profound. His creations reflect the complexities of human nature, offering not only a feast for the eyes but also a philosophical exploration. This makes him an indispensable figure in the realm of contemporary art.

The groundbreaking sculptor's most comprehensive monograph to date
Jean-Michel Othoniel is an artist who creates sculptures that explore themes of fragility, transformation, and ephemerality. Using the repetition of such modular elements as bricks or beads, his work deploys various strategies that hint at loss and despair – cracks in his objects' perfect surfaces, negative spaces and, early in his career, transient materials such as sulfur. The most authoritative study of the artist's work to date, it includes intimate gallery pieces as well as monumental public commissions around the world.
