Spatial Design That Deciphers the Times
The Annual of Spatial Design in Japan 2025 presents an extensive collection of award-winning works from two major design competitions: the "Japan Spatial Design Award 2024" and the "58th Japan Sign Design Award," organized by three leading Japanese design organizations.
Since its launch in 1973, this annual has reached its 52nd edition, continuing its tradition of documenting excellence in spatial design. The "Japan Spatial Design Award" was established through the unification of the awards from the Japan Design Space Association (DSA) and the Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association (JCD), while the "Japan Sign Design Award" is organized by the Japan Sign Design Association (SDA).
Each award-winning project, selected through a rigorous judging process from entries submitted both domestically and internationally, is introduced with rich visual documentation. Together, they provide a compelling visual narrative that reflects the trends, spirit, and creativity of the past year. This annual stands as a unique and unparalleled reference, compiling outstanding examples across a wide range of spatial design fields into a single, comprehensive volume.
Adding depth to this edition is a special essay titled "In Search of Beauty in Contemporary Architecture" by world-renowned architect Toyo Ito, offering critical insights into the current landscape of architecture and spatial aesthetics.
Featured Highlights:
A special column titled "My Representative Works and Future Prospects" contributed by the KUKAN OF THE YEAR and Gold Award winners of the Japan Spatial Design Award 2024.
